The Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, hosted the opening of the first Moroccan-Mauritanian Sports Media Forum on Thursday, November 5, 2026, in an initiative reflecting the growing professional and media cooperation between the two countries, opening new horizons for exchanging expertise and developing sports journalism in light of rapid digital transformations.
The two-day forum is organized in partnership between the Mauritanian Sports Commentators Association and the Moroccan Sports Press Association, with the participation of media figures, sports personalities, and representatives from government sectors, aiming to enhance professionalism, develop journalistic skills, and share successful experiences.
The opening ceremony was overseen by the Secretary-General of the Mauritanian Ministry of Culture, Arts, Communication, and Relations with Parliament, Sidi Mohamed Khatri Jeddou, who emphasized the importance of the initiative in consolidating cooperation between the two media institutions, praising the depth of the fraternal ties that unite Morocco and Mauritania.
For his part, the President of the Mauritanian Sports Commentators Association, Mohamed Ould El Hassan, highlighted the need for journalists to keep pace with the technological transformations witnessed by the media sector, considering the forum an opportunity to develop professional skills and benefit from mutual expertise.
The President of the Moroccan Sports Press Association, Badreddine Idrissi, affirmed that the role of sports media is no longer limited to reporting results and events, but now includes spreading sports culture, instilling the values of fair competition, and highlighting talent, while praising the progress achieved by Mauritanian sports journalism.
The forum's activities included discussions on the challenges of sports media in the digital age, with a partnership agreement between the two associations scheduled to be signed during the closing day, Friday, November 6, to provide a framework for future professional cooperation.
This meeting gains importance beyond the sports dimension, as it serves as an additional bridge for rapprochement between the Moroccan and Mauritanian societies, and an opportunity to strengthen the joint media presence in a Maghreb region that requires more cross-border professional and cultural initiatives.
