The Dubai Future Foundation was established to play a pivotal role in shaping the emirate's future, transforming it into a city of tomorrow through a strategic vision that anticipates change and preempts global challenges. Through the "Sandbox Dubai" platform, the Foundation announced the launch of the "AI Sandbox" initiative in a strategic move aimed at enhancing the legislative and innovation ecosystem by activating public-private partnerships and overcoming the key challenges hindering the practical implementation of advanced technology.
This initiative addresses a prominent global gap highlighted by the World Economic Forum, namely that approximately seventy-four percent of artificial intelligence initiatives remain confined to the experimentation stage without transitioning to practical application, particularly in light of complexities related to regulatory requirements, difficulties in accessing data, and the alignment of current policies with rapid developments. The Foundation seeks to address this by providing a realistic and safe environment that allows startups, small and medium-sized enterprises, along with major technology companies and government entities such as the Dubai Center for Artificial Intelligence, to test their innovative solutions and provide regulators with the data necessary to develop regulatory frameworks for the sector.
The initiative targets multiple vital sectors including education, healthcare, transport, logistics, tourism, media, and government services. Participation requires that submitted solutions have reached or exceeded the minimum viable product (MVP) stage, along with demonstrating readiness for commercial rollout. Applications from around the world will be accepted until December eighteenth, two thousand and twenty-six.
Through this platform, participating companies will receive comprehensive support including specialized guidance, technical and regulatory expertise, as well as the consideration of flexible regulatory exemptions tailored to the nature of each project, thereby enhancing innovators' ability to translate their ideas into actual applications serving comprehensive economic development. The innovative dimension of this step is not limited to purely technical aspects, but extends to cultural and media sectors that increasingly rely on artificial intelligence techniques to develop content creation, digital archiving, and smart publishing. This intersects with Dubai's endeavors to solidify its position as a global capital for technological and economic innovation within the projects of the Dubai Economic Agenda, which aims to double the emirate's economy over the next decade and foster a flexible, future-proof legislative environment.
