The independent Mauritanian news agency "Al-Akhbar" reported that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, made an unannounced visit to Nouakchott, during which he met with Mauritanian officials.

Citing special sources, the agency reported that the visit took place on Friday, November 6, 2026, and was dedicated to talks concerning regional developments, foremost among them being the Sahara file.

The agency did not specify the names of the officials met by Bourita. However, other Moroccan and Mauritanian media outlets reported that President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani received him at the presidential palace, and that the minister left Nouakchott the same evening following a brief visit.

No details were published regarding the outcome of the talks or the nature of the arrangements surrounding the visit. As of Saturday morning, November 7, no official Moroccan or Mauritanian statement had been issued to confirm the visit or clarify its content.

This visit comes following the conclusion of the mandate of the United Nations mission "MINURSO" on October 31, after a US-Russian disagreement prevented the extension of its mandate in the Security Council. Mauritania maintains, according to statements by its government spokesman, a position of "positive neutrality" on this issue.
