Police officers in the prefecture of Marrakech, in close coordination with the services of the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), managed to arrest a 21-year-old Portuguese national who was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the French judicial authorities, on suspicion of involvement in a case of intentional homicide linked to a potential settling of scores between drug trafficking networks, in a security operation reflecting the importance of international cooperation in tracking down fugitives from justice.
The arrest of the suspect, who was residing illegally in Morocco, followed security investigations that pinpointed his location in the city of Marrakech, before subjecting him to identity verification and legal status checks. These procedures revealed that he was the subject of an international search memo issued at the request of the National Central Bureau in Paris.
A check of the suspect in the databases of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) showed that French authorities were seeking him for suspected links to cases involving intentional homicide, criminal conspiracy, and unauthorized possession and transport of firearms—offenses that are currently the subject of judicial investigations by competent authorities in France.
The events in which the suspect is allegedly involved date back to December 2025, when the French city of Bordeaux witnessed a homicide that investigators believe occurred in the context of a settling of scores among individuals suspected of ties to drug trafficking networks. Preliminary data indicate the suspect may have participated alongside other individuals in carrying out the crime, without this constituting a judicial conviction.
Following the arrest, the Portuguese national was subjected to legal procedures related to extradition, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office, pending the completion of the judicial and administrative requirements necessary to consider his handover to the French authorities.
Furthermore, the National Central Bureau "Interpol Rabat", under the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), notified its French counterpart of the operation's results and opened coordination channels regarding subsequent legal procedures related to the case.
This case highlights the pivotal role played by Moroccan security services in executing international search warrants and strengthening cooperation with specialized agencies in combating organized crime, particularly in cross-border cases involving intertwined crimes of murder and illicit drug and arms trafficking.
The final determination of criminal responsibilities remains tied to the results of investigations and judicial rulings issued by competent authorities, while the suspect continues to enjoy the presumption of innocence until a final court verdict is rendered.
