In a new step to enhance energy security within the United Arab Emirates, ADNOC Gas announced the signing of an agreement with Etihad Water and Electricity, aimed at exploring future natural gas supply arrangements and supporting the development of new power generation projects in the Northern Emirates.
The agreement reflects a strategic direction towards securing the electricity sector's needs from reliable local sources, amid the population growth and urban and economic expansion witnessed by the country, coupled with a continuous rise in demand for electrical energy.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Etihad Water and Electricity, indicating the high priority given by relevant authorities to developing energy infrastructure and enhancing integration among national institutions.
Fatima Al Nuaimi, CEO of ADNOC Gas, emphasized that the company continues to invest in increasing its production capacities and developing gas transmission networks, enabling it to leverage additional supplies, connect with new customers in the domestic market, and support future power generation projects.
For his part, Engineer Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of Etihad Water and Electricity, explained that the company is working on developing a balanced mix of gas-fired power plants and renewable energy projects, ensuring the fulfillment of growing needs for communities and economic activities in the northern parts of the country.
The agreement holds special significance due to its connection to enhancing reliance on locally produced gas and reducing the need for imported fuel, in addition to supporting the long-term flexibility of the national energy system.
The agreement does not represent an announcement of the commencement of specific gas supplies, but rather establishes a foundation for discussing future arrangements that could evolve into operational partnerships supporting electricity security and keeping pace with sustainable development requirements.
