Anfield witnessed a fiercely contested football summit between Liverpool and Chelsea in the English League Cup, in a match characterized by high tactical discipline and close statistics from the opening whistle to the final moments.

Real excitement began to build late in the first half when Morgan Rogers managed to open the scoring for the Blues in the fortieth minute, though the hosts' response was not long in coming as Cody Gakpo succeeded in equalizing for Liverpool in the forty-third minute.
