Amid the continuation of its systematic hostile approach and relentless pursuit of fabricating crises and fueling tension campaigns against the Kingdom of Morocco, Algerian newspapers, media reports, and academic seminars recently indicated that Algeria is preparing a comprehensive legal file to sue Morocco, attempting to exploit fabricated environmental and technical issues as a new platform for gratuitous political attacks and to justify internal failures.
These mobilized campaigns have focused on allegations concerning cross-border water pollution in the wilaya of Tlemcen, specifically regarding Wadi Mouilah and Wadi Isly, relying on politicized statements by former Water Resources Minister Mostafa Kamal Mihoubi and researchers from Abou Bekr Belkaïd University in Tlemcen. These directed theses claimed to have detected high concentrations of organic, chemical, and heavy metal pollutants exceeding international standards by hundreds of times, alleging that their source traces back to the activity of more than 400 industrial units in the vicinity of the Moroccan city of Oujda.
They went further in weaving fabricated narratives, holding these activities responsible for severe environmental damage, including the incident of the death of 45 tons of fish in the Hammam Boughrara Dam in 2024, which has a storage capacity of about 177 million cubic meters and whose resources benefit about 2 million people in the region. However, precise and objective hydrological tracking of watercourses clearly reveals the fallacy of these claims and scientifically refutes them, especially what was promoted by some reports that the water originally starts from the Sidi Abed region in Algeria, passes through Morocco, and then returns to Algeria—a claim that completely contradicts the most basic rules of topography and gravity.
The confirmed scientific and geographical truth proves that the shared valleys and streams originate exclusively from the highlands and upper regions on the Moroccan side to flow downward toward the lowlands of Algerian territory in a unidirectional flow, without any circular cycle or reverse path returning the water to its supposed source. These technical fallacies and attempts to wave illusory legal files confirm beyond a shadow of a doubt that Algeria is still searching for pretexts every time to attack Morocco, as it strives to turn water and environmental cooperation issues into a card of political blackmail and systematic media attack, completely ignoring the diplomatic frameworks and established bilateral channels for resolving such technical issues, and confirming once again that the consumers of false propaganda will not hesitate to fabricate lies and employ misleading figures to fuel regional hostility and poison the atmosphere between the two countries.
