Union Escalation by Tobruk Teachers in Eastern Libya

The Tobruk Teachers' Union announced, in an official statement issued today, Saturday, October 24, 2026, its categorical rejection of the results of the latest session of the Libyan House of Representatives regarding the unified salary scale and the educational file, expressing its total adherence to eight basic professional and vital demands, spearheaded by the settlement of pending financial arrears, the activation of the legal teaching allowance, the provision of comprehensive medical insurance for educational staff, as well as the rehabilitation of deteriorated educational institutions and the guarantee of school supplies before undertaking escalated protest measures.

In the context of parallel social files that have captured attention on the Libyan scene today, the city of Benghazi hosted an expanded forum with the participation of social and economic experts to discuss the socio-economic and demographic repercussions of foreign labor on the stability of the Libyan family and the local labor market, while sadness hovered over the city of Brega following a tragic incident in which a woman lost her life after being accidentally shot by a hunting shotgun her three-year-old son was playing with, in parallel with the deployment by the Ministry of Local Government of water suction tankers in Tripoli and cities of the western coast to clear roads affected by accumulated rainwater.
