The Cost of Living Knocks at the Door.. Will the Moroccan Government Act to Avoid the French Contagion?

What is happening in France today, marked by violent and bloody clashes in protest against skyrocketing prices, deteriorating purchasing power, and the daily livelihood of citizens, is not merely a passing news item. It is a resounding warning bell alerting all governments, including the Moroccan government, that the patience of peoples has limits.

What we are witnessing on French streets, despite whatever is said about its welfare state, confirms a single truth: when high costs touch the citizen's daily bread, slogans and international market justifications are of no use.

Therefore, the Moroccan government is called upon today, more than ever before, to urgently amend the focus of the current finance bill. What is needed is not rigid accounting figures, but courageous and concrete measures to curb raging prices, raise the ceiling of direct social support, protect the eroding middle class, and shield the crushed poor class.

Prevention is better than cure.

The current government will face immense difficulties in the coming months. It has two choices, with no third option: either to be a genuine rescue government that sides with the citizen, reconsiders its priorities, and strikes with an iron fist against speculators and monopolists,

or else to be infected by the contagion of protests, at which point it will be difficult to stop them, because hunger knows no language of dialogue, and high prices do not wait for reassuring statements.

The stake today is not about passing a budget, but about saving trust...
