Suspicious financial and commercial data have paved the way for in-depth investigations into foreign transactions worth approximately 736 million dirhams, after the Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes identified irregularities related to the operations of three companies with headquarters spread between Casablanca and Tangier.
According to information reported by the newspaper "Hespress" on Thursday, customs services forwarded suspicion reports to the National Financial Intelligence Authority (ANRF), following the discovery of discrepancies between the values declared during import and export operations and the amounts actually paid and received, which raised suspicions regarding the potential exploitation of international trade to transfer unjustified financial flows.
The control operations included commercial invoices, shipping documents, and customs declarations, as well as tracking financial transfers related to the transactions in question, with the aim of verifying artificial inflation of import prices or the reduction of export prices, in order to conceal the movement of funds from an unknown source.
This case highlights one of the most serious forms of financial crime: money laundering through international trade, where fictitious commercial transactions can become a means to conceal the origin of funds and transfer them across borders.
Pending the results of financial investigations and possible legal proceedings that may arise from them, these developments reflect the importance of strengthening oversight of trade exchanges and increasing coordination between customs, banking institutions, and the Exchange Office, to protect the national economy from illegal financial flows.
The transactions in question remain at the suspicion stage, and the magnitude of their financial volume does not in any way constitute confirmation of money laundering of the mentioned amount or a conviction of the accused companies.
